Compass Travel Center

WT Group AEC provided architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and structural engineering services for the new Compass Travel Center in North Chicago, Illinois. Located along Skokie Highway, the 11,365-squarefoot facility is designed as a modern, full-service destination serving both professional drivers and everyday motorists.

The site is designed to accommodate significant vehicle traffic, with automobile fueling located at the front of the travel center and 5 dedicated diesel fueling positions for semi-trucks located behind the building. The automobile fueling area includes 10 dispensers accommodating up to 20 vehicles at a time. Inside, the travel center will feature driver showers and lounge amenities, 2 quick service restaurants, culinary delights from Compass Kitchen, a beer cave, convenience retail and prepared foods, and a gaming area with 10 gaming positions.

WT completed the architectural design in late 2025, with construction beginning in spring 2026 and completion anticipated in early 2027. The North Chicago facility marks the second Compass Travel Center designed by WT Group AEC, following the company’s location in DeMotte, Indiana, and reflects WT’s continued experience delivering integrated design and engineering solutions for fueling and travel center developments.
