The Engineering Behind a High-Performance Aquatic Facility

July 8, 2026

The new Barrington Aquatic Center is a great example of how thoughtful aquatic engineering supports both the guest experience and long-term operational performance.

Our team provided the aquatic design and engineering for a facility that integrates multiple water environments while emphasizing hydraulic efficiency, exceptional water quality, operational reliability, and ease of maintenance. Every circulation, filtration, and treatment system was designed to work as a coordinated solution that delivers consistent performance across the entire aquatic complex.

"Successful aquatic facilities are built on much more than what guests see above the water," said Rich Klarck, Principal-in-Charge, Aquatic Engineering. "The engineering behind the scenes plays a critical role in water quality, operational efficiency, and long-term reliability. At Barrington Aquatic Center, we designed every system to work together as an integrated solution, creating a facility that delivers an exceptional experience for visitors while giving operators the tools and technology they need to manage it with confidence."

To support these goals, the facility incorporates Filtrex® regenerative media filtration technology, delivering exceptional water clarity while significantly reducing backwash water consumption compared to conventional filtration systems.

At the core of the aquatic mechanical systems is the HALO® System Controller, which serves as the central automation platform for the entire filtration system. Beyond monitoring and controlling water treatment, the HALO system coordinates filter regeneration cycles ("filter bumps"), heater operation, surge tank management, and automatic pool water level control. The system also incorporates multiple safety interlocks that protect equipment, maintain proper system operation, and provide operators with comprehensive monitoring and control of the aquatic facility.

Modern aquatic engineering extends well beyond pool layouts. It requires the seamless integration of hydraulics, filtration, mechanical equipment, water treatment, and intelligent controls to create facilities that operate efficiently and reliably every day. The Barrington Aquatic Center reflects that integrated approach, providing a modern aquatic environment engineered for performance, sustainability, and long-term operational success.

We're proud to have delivered an aquatic system that demonstrates how advanced filtration, automation, and engineering can work together to support both facility operators and the community they serve.
